A Manual on Basic Statistics

Statistics is part of the curriculum for most of the students in biology especially at the postgraduate levels. However, these are not usually taken seriously by the students with the result that they encounter problems when they come to design their studies or analyze their data. The following link would take you to a site hosted by the FAO of the United Nations containing a publication written by Jayaraman (myself). This publication gives a step-by-step introduction to basic philosophy and utility of statistical method in scientific research. Although it is written in the context of forestry research, the concepts and techniques are applicable in other domains in biology.

Advanced Statistical Manual for Ayurveda Research

Ayurveda so far based on traditional knowledge and ancient literature has gained increased acceptance in the modern times due to its efficacy against chronic diseases without undue side effects, unlike that prevails in other branches of medical sciences. However, research efforts in Ayurveda lack in many respects especially in terms of scientific rigour and efficient experimental design and analytical methods. This manual is generally intended to bridge this gap by illustrating the applications of modern tools and techniques associated with data generation and analysis. The format of presentation differs much from that available in standard text books as it directly addresses the needs of the researchers in actual research problems. After a thorough discussion, the material was decided to be presented in a series of research problems that would be encountered in regular research attempts in Ayurveda.

This manual will be highly useful to the students and active researchers in applied biology especially in the Ayurveda domain.
